                A Practical Guide to Relieving Stress and Building Resilience



Description


“Stress” is a very popular modern concept frequently used to describe an uncomfortable response to a negative event. In fact, stress sums our physical, physiological and emotional response to a stressor, and may be pleasant or unpleasant depending on the situation. This workshop helps participants better understand stress and the threshold that impairs and blocks us from thriving at our job and living a happy life.


Far from insisting on academic details, the workshop provides enough overview to clarify the concepts and a set of simple, yet powerful techniques and tools to manage anxiety and stress. The content is based on mindfulness techniques, wellness and psychology literature, as well as innovative new research in neuroscience and new biology.


At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:


  • Identify sources of stress and the physical and psychological consequences of prolonged stress
  • Better understand fear at the basis of all stress responses and its role in generating negative emotional and behavioral responses
  • Use techniques of stress management to reduce and cope with stress
  • Understand the role of sleep and nutrition in managing stress
  • Seek social support, communication and spiritual wellness
  • Apply breathing and relaxation techniques to reduce anxiety and alleviate stress response
  • Cope with anger and manage anger response

Duration and Format

BALANCING ACT uses a mix of frontal seminar presentation of topics and participatory exercises. Practical exercises include stress assessment, breathing techniques, meditation and centering methods.


The workshop is given in a two-hour interactive format that can be presented in an abbreviated version of a one-hour seminar. An additional hour can be set in place for group work and to learn more stress relieving techniques, including reflexology, visualization and other types of meditation techniques.


One and two-hour sessions can be developed to address the complex topic of worrying, including practical exercises to eliminate most common worries (I’m not god enough, nobody likes me, I can’t do that, etc.).

Our brain, this amazing bio-computer is one of the least understood and most complex organ in our body. How does the brain work? How are memories formed and how can we improve memory?   • Know how memory works and apply various mnemonic techniques to enhance memory
  • Put together a brain fitness plan with exercises and techniques that can be applied on a daily bases
  • Better understand emotions and the role of the conscious mind in self-regulating emotions
  • Apply emotional and social intelligence principles in their daily life
  • Understand the connection between nutrition and brain performance and make more efficient nutritional choices based on glycemic index, nutritional value and Ayurvedic medicine principles
